Visual identity for “Kafeneion Oi Myloi” a traditional kafeneio in Astypalaia. The briefing was to be designed with respect to the history of the building and the place. So the basis of the concept was inspired by an old painting that is hanging on the walls of this historic place for the last 80 years. Firstly an illustration based roughly on this painting and another one based on the road that this kafeneio is on, along with the famous windmills of the island. Hand sketched initially and then finalised on the computer using as less editing as possible to achieve the flat and rustic desired feeling. Menus and business cards were designed in the same way. The initial font used in the painting was traced and used along with an old typewriter font to emphasise the traditional element of the project but with in a more minimal perspective so the identity to be fresh and timeless. A less detailed version of the illustration was designed to be used as a stamp also.
